Thameswey Canoe Club was formed in 1987 and is based at Waterland (Lake 32) on the Cotswold Water Park. The club now has more than 200 members. The club is totally run by volunteers including coaches, Leaders, club committee and many club helpers.
Our youngest paddlers start at age 7 but we have plenty of teens paddling and a good range of all ages.
We particularly welcome parents if they want to join with their children as all our activities are mixed-age. The only criteria for participation are the desire to be part of what we do and to have a sense of fun.
We arrange all sorts of training for members in a variety of watercraft. The club has active members in white water kayaking and canoeing, SUP, sea kayaking, freestyle/playboating, and surf kayaking. There is also an enthusiastic group of touring kayakers/canoeists and SUP boarders.
As a member, you will have the opportunity to achieve British Canoeing Personal Performance Awards. We also have an engaging and fun Youth Coaching Programme for young people between 7-18 years old.
Members have the opportunity to become Paddlesport coaches and we also have a Young Coach Programme that is open to young people between 12-16 years old who meet the criteria.
The club has a varied trips calendar ranging from gentle paddles to white water rivers.
- Meandering paddles on the River Wye or Thames
- Sea kayaking through Durdle Door and seeing the other sites of the Jurassic Coast
- Sea kayaking to Ramsey Island and the wilds of the Pembrokeshire Coast
- The iconic white water rivers of North and South Wales, Dartmoor, and Exmoor
